In January 2010 I set myself a challenge - To take a photo a day for the whole year. Sounds so simple.. But I want each of the photos to be worth printing in at least A4 size, something that is interesting, beautiful or unusual in some way. This should be a way for me to increase my photography skills and something that is worth sharing with friends and fellow photogs. I stopped uploading photos to this blog for around 7 years...So I will be uploading pictures to fill in the blanks.

praying for a better day
Man appears to be praying while sitting in his rowboat along the canal
in Bangkok's Floating market.
The black and white just seems to help concentrate the eye on the man,
while the leading lines of the boat help to draw our eyes to the man
as well.

Marigold on a boat
Bangkok floating market.
Colourful marigolds placed on the front of a small rowboat are a
symbol of good luck to the vendor selling her wares from a small
rowboat filled with fruits for sale.
The yellow marigolds stand out from the dark red wood of the rowboat.
Sepia - Canal woman
Old woman sells fruits from her small rowboat on the Canals in Bangkok
Thailand. Sepia just seems to work best for rme in this photo- The
sepia gives a feeling of old age - just like the woman;s face.

Old woman on the canal
An old woman waves as my boat passes her on a Canal in Thailand.
I wave back and snapp a few pictures.

Coconut cookies
A man spoons out individual cookies that will be cooked in a large
metal Wok over an open fire where they will solidify and soon be sold
to passing tourists. He seems to be enjoying his work and smiling.

hot stuff
AN open oven and lare steel bowl used to make coconut milk cookies in Thailand.
I like the orange glow from the heat and the contrast of the dark metal bowl.

Deep in thought
A flower garland vendor stares into the distance while deep in thought.
The colourful garlands detracted the eye from the subject of my photo
- the woman's face. Changing the photo to black and white has
eliminated the distracting flowers but still obscurs part of her face.
Best I could do from a moving car...

Salt Fields in Bangkok
Instead of salt mines - here in Bangkok the fields are filled with
water from the ocean , then gradually allowed to dry, leavuing behind
salt that is scrapped together into small mounds.
